great news!

(from my mom's phone)

April 20th is my birthday. I am going to have a horse slumber party on that day. My mom and dad are giving me a mountain bike but that is all I know I'm getting. The mountain bike is going to be like the color of my eyes, turquoise! I am going to have it in a few days and can't wait. Some of my friends are coming over and 2 of my cousins Abigail and Sydney. My friends are Keturah, Little Ella [Keturah's little sister], Jessica, and Verity, who gave me the horse book with the Appaloosa.
We are going to get hay from someone and a saddle from my mom's friend. My mom and I are going to have a wreath on the front door and we are going to have banners and cupcake toppers. And we are going to have the best time ever!!!!! We are going to watch Black Beauty and sleep in the living room. We will probably have a campfire in the backyard and play games outside. We will have ice cream, cupcakes, and pizza, too. Thank you everyone for looking at my blog!

A Colorful Pinto

About me

I am 8 years old. I've loved horses for six years since I didn't know about them until I was three. Mrs. Karen (my horse back riding teacher) taught me how to ride horses. First she taught me how to ride Vern (favorite horse in the stable of all six. Then, Dixie, the horse that is so sweet even though she bites sometimes. As you can see the picture of me riding Vern I have brownish blonde hair with greenish blue eyes, white skin and a huge love for horses and drawing. I am writing a book called Mandy and the Wild Mustang. One time she was walking in a corn field and she hears a horses whinny. She walks to where the whinny is and sees a mustang. This is a book about love for horses. Thank everyone for looking at my blog.

A poem about horses

I love the country not the city,
even though I live in the city.
I can have fun with horses,
I have some horses in my room,
too bad they could not come true,
of being alive in my room,
or if I had my own horse,
it could peek her head in my room.
I miss horse riding every day,
but I always come back.
I would love to live in the stable,
and have horse smell on me,
not take a shower or anything like that.
I will love horses forever and ever.

What I did in horse riding

When I went to horse back riding, my horse riding teacher was not there. My grandpa and I tacked up Vern by ourselves. When I first got on Vern I felt happy as a horse getting hay. It was a challenge when we got Dixie, Jasper and Vern in their stalls and out. As I was at the end of the hill Vern and I cantered back up the hill. We trotted next. Then we went back inside the barn and untacked Vern. We put the horses back- but not Neon, Swan and Dancer because they don't get along with them. We left and got ice cream and pizza and then stopped at my other grandma and grandpa's house. My cousins, Noah and Brennan, were there, and we pretended that Brennan was scaring us by saying "boo" to us and stomping and jumping and other stuff. I went inside because my dad was shooting his new gun for fun but I didn't want to stay outside with him. When we got home I went straight to bed I was so tired.

If your horse won't eat.

If your horse won't eat, you should try putting hay in his or her stall or pasture. If it does not work you should go on the trail and stop where there is lots of grass and trees, get your horse in the middle of the grass, and let it graze. However, if that does not work, bring your horse a treat- like a sugar cube or carrot.

Here is a recipe for horses- a Birthday Cake!

*Ingredients:

4 cups of sweet feed or oats
1 cup of molasses or honey
2 Carrots cut into carrot sticks
1 Apple cut into slices

Preparation:

Mix the honey and sweet feed/oats together in a big bowl. Then, when fully mixed, place the mixture on a plate and shape into the form of a birthday cake! (you could even use a mold!). Use the carrots as candles and the apple slices as decorations. (be creative!). Horses really enjoy this sticky but delicious treat!

To Beaver Creek

When we first went to Beaver Creek and crossed the river, I was a little bit nervous but then we came back to another trail. We went on another trail that led to a horse camp. At that camp, we took a 5 minute break and then went back home. While on the trail, we saw trees cut by beavers on the way back. I thought they were very interesting when I first saw them. Closer to home, we saw deer running in the woods. They were does and had white tails [white tailed deer]. That trip was so beautiful and I could not get it of my mind.

When we got back we took the horses in the pasture. Lucy, the dog, helped us get the horses in. I played tug-a-war with Lucy when we got back. Before we went to my house, we got eggs from the chickens. They are the best eggs I've ever tasted.

Why horses whinny?

My Aunt Denise asked me why horses whinny. Horses whinny either to warn other horses to move somewhere else or to greet it's owner. Horses warn other horses by, saying there is a predator near or to say there is hunters somewhere near too. Above is a picture from my book.

Appaloosa

The Appaloosa is an ancient breed whose unusually marked coats have been discovered in the wall drawings of European Ice Age caves, and found in Chinese works of art dating back to 500 B.C. According to Greek records, Persians rode spotted war horses. Legendary writings reveal that these horses were regarded as sacred.Although the Appaloosa breed has long history the name is relatively new. Inhabiting parts of Northwestern United States a couple of centuries ago, was an Indian tribe known as the Nezperce. They had beautiful horses with coats of various patterns and colors. No one knows how or when these Indians acquired their horses. Perhaps they descended from the spotted strains among those horses brought to the New World by Spaniards in the sixteenth century. These animals must have appealed greatly to the Nezperce for they were considered one of the most colorful tribes. The artists beaded designs in their clothing and horse trappings were outstanding. - Taken from the book, Wonderful World of Horses. I will do one breed every month.

Pass the word!

If you have seen my blog, tell others that you saw it! Thank you!

What a silly horse!

If you saw the horse in the background (brush your teeth Vern!), that horse was Dixie. In the background my cousin, Abigail, was riding her but poor Dixie- now her leg is hurt!

How to tickle your horse

(Brush your teeth Vern!)

If you want to tickle your horse rub right above the mouth but below the nose or near the jaws of a horse. If you tickle a horse by its mouth it seems like it is talking. Don't make fun of your horse too much.

If your horse has one blind eye

If your horse has a blind eye you should not pet the horse on the side of the blind eye so it will not get startled. Let the horse know that you are there and you are not going to hurt it.

Here is a video of horse with one blind eye. Her trainer explains how to work with her. She is a mare paint- and beautiful!

Safety Tips

Never treat a horse badly or they might get you back.

Don't wrap the reins around your hands or your horse might tug on the reins and hurt your hands.

Never run around a horse. They might get scared and buck or bite.

Take good care of your horse and give it food and water. You might get a kiss.

Wear your helmet at all times.

When you are crossing a river with a horse let the reins be loose or your horse might trip.

Never let your horse run down a steep hill. Your horse might fall down and get hurt.

Dear Reader,

I have made this blog to show the value of horses. You may ask me questions about your horse. For example: How can I make my horse listen? Or: My horse won't eat. What should I do?

Always help horses in need. You might make a new friend!
